Camp Hermosa is Invested in your Kids and Teens.
This week, in addition to the Adoptive Family Camp campers, the LITs have descended on us. We're always happy to have them here — it's refreshing to be in the presence of so much youth and enthusiasm as they learn how to serve and lead at camp. They're accompanied by our LIT Director, Shaye Copeland, who many of you will remember as a cabin leader in the 90s and and a Director in the aughts. (Shaye is one of our favourite camp people. She shows up, she leans in, she sets a great example, and she forces us to sing the birdie song first thing in the morning. Sssshhhh, the birdies are SLEEPING!)
Dune was one of the 2023 LITs. This year, they've joined the summer staff as a lifeguard. They shared with us that there are many things that made them want to be on staff, but it started with them being a camper who loved being at camp. "I had so many great friendships with camp staff, so I always wanted to be one myself!"
LIT was an effective way to learn how to be a great leader and a strong communicator, Dune says. "One thing that really stuck with me was the problem-solving skills we were taught. I also discovered I had the ability to work with lots of different kinds of people."
Through their experience as a camper, an LIT, and now on staff, Dune has seen so many reasons why it's important for all kids to have the opportunity to come to camp. "It's a super inclusive and safe space that helps kids grow and develop socially, mentally, and spiritually. Kids make some of their best memories at camp" they said. "Little kids are our future! They matter a whole lot, and I want to make camp a safe place for them, as other leaders and staff have done for me."
Please pray for our LITs this week, that they will be able to learn how to successfully share God's love with our campers, while also navigating the challenges and triumphs of life at camp.
We still have some space in all of our camp weeks! Why not invite a friend? Don't forget, first-timers save $50 with the promo code BELONG.

P.S. Did you know that we have a bursary fund? The bursary fund is used each year to provide help with registration costs for more than 100 kids. That's 100+ kids who otherwise wouldn't be able to attend camp. We want every kid to have that opportunity, regardless of their family's financial situation. Last year our bursary fund was used more than ever, and we expect that trend to continue this year. Will you make a donation to help ensure every kid gets the chance to experience camp like Dune did?
